9 International Press-Approved Collections of YEREVAN FASHION WEEK
This summer Armenia hosted the first edition of Yerevan Fashion Week - an unprecedented fashion event in the Armenian fashion scene. Moreover, the fashion event has been a tremendous success with 23 talented Armenian designers having showcased their collections.
While the organizers promise to make the event annual, the designers with all of the insights of the international press are engrossed in a creative process for further collections and fashion weeks.
The first edition of Yerevan Fashion Week hosted representatives of international fashion magazines like Vogue Italy, Elle, Marie Claire Arabia, WeAr Global Magazine (UK), LE MILE Magazine (Germany) etc.
While calling some collections too local, the representatives of the international press also expressed words of appreciation for the Armenian talent and made a list of their favorite collections.
And so, which Yerevan Fashion Week collections have received most international press approval?
Loom Weaving
The culmination of the final day of Yerevan Fashion Week was Loom Weaving’s breathtaking fashion show with its “Obscure Nature” collection. Oversized knitwear, vibrant colors, tassel handbags, elegant lace dresses and sheer shirts and all this - with floral elements and impressive details: the collection was a manifestation of the designer Inga Manukyan’s talent, the brand’s unique knitwear traditions and exceptional craftsmanship.
HGP
The designer Hagop Shahinian’s collection brought joy, color and vibrancy to the YFW stage - casual, stylish and wearable male looks, feminine and playful womenswear – the collection was inspired by the designer’s childhood drawings and the memories with his family.
From a flower-printed male shirt to crayon-illustrated feminine dresses, casual male jackets to a red crop shirt and white shorts, relaxed, yet modern cuts, impressive craftsmanship – Hagop’s collection featured a confident stylish man and a bold woman.
Platon ff
Platon ff featured both menswear and womenswear, the collection having been a collaboration of the designer Erica Chilingaryan and the Italian design studio “Ozio Piccolo Studio Tessile”.
The woolen and long line jackets, printed shirts paired with minimalistic shorts and pants instantly captured the attention of the fashion addicted males following the show.
As “Fault Magazine” put it, the Platon ff collection demonstrated their commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and loyalty to European aesthetics while keeping Armenia at the heart of the collection.
Armine Ohanyan Paris
The collection “CYBERDISTORTION” by Armine Ohanyan Paris represented a unisex wardrobe with futuristic overtones. The collection was a manifestation of confrontation between the digital world and reality bringing futuristic aesthetics and skillful tailoring to the Yerevan Fashion Week runway. The paint splatter and the digital motifs added a special touch to the collection reflecting the designer Armine Ohanyan’s creativity and love for innovation.
VOLTA
With his striking collection of genderless garments Missak Haji-Avedikian brought dramatic change of emotions to Yerevan Fashion Week runway showcasing his pieces imbued with Shakespearean poetry, the traditions of British bespoke tailoring and his old brand with new “VOLTA” imprints.
The collection blended masculine elements with a touch of femininity in combinations and forms that came as surprise to many present. From a metallic shimmering poncho dress to a silver T-shirt, from glittering trousers to cropped jacket - VOLTA took the audience to the very heights of its fashion vaults.
Seda Manukyan
Seda Manukyan’s collection of entirely black featured menswear pieces though the designer had prepared some touch of femininity to the presentation as well with a sheer high neck dress accentuated by a large leather belt and trousers. From tunics and knit vest looks to oversized cardigans and a pinafore dress, the collection was inspired by the image of an accomplished man with values and precise message to the world.
Z.G.EST
Infused with love for denim, in its collection Z.G.EST blended upcycled denim with deconstructed essentials demonstrating the brand’s commitment to sustainability and the strong conviction that Fashion and environmental consciousness can coexist harmoniously.
Showcasing an interplay of contrasting elements, unconventional cuts and captivating details in its vibrant pieces, the collection “Ambiguity” reaffirmed the brand’s affection for creative twist and novel solutions.
Ariga Torosian
Ariga Torosian’s collection paid homage to Yerevan’s historic Architecture. The geometric lines and captivating cuts of the pieces with expert craftsmanship reimagined and traced the silhouettes of historic Yerevan, the tough fabrics representing the traditional buildings that have witnessed much of the past through ages and light fabrics manifesting modernity.
Ariga loves minimalism and classic lines while infusing intricate details and modern elements and all this – with supreme craftsmanship and dexterity.
NARNY
Remaining loyal to its traditions of creating elegant and feminine pieces, on Yerevan Fashion Week runway NARNY showcased a blend of national elements and contemporary trends. Minimalistic approach, geometric lines - the feminine dresses featured Armenian ornaments and letters of the alphabet in a skillful manner with a touch of the modern world and contemporary elements celebrating national heritage and creativity.
