The Four Favorite Collections of Fault Magazine’s Miles Holder

“Miles, you've been present at Yerevan Fashion Week 2023 - what have you seen this year that was different from the previous one?”

“First, I would like to talk about the younger generation - this year the participants of Fashion Scout Armenia were much stronger, they had great ideas. I really loved their work.

Overall, this time I've seen improvements in many aspects (improvements in organization, craftsmenship etc.)

“Any insights regarding the collections?”

Regarding the collections: the designers had a good eye on what the local trends are and understanding of what local audience needs.

While assessing some collections it would be better to first understand who the audience of these collections is supposed to be - is it the local region or the global one?

To my mind, these collections may mostly work for local level.

If a designer is interested in international market, he/she will need to start thinking globally of what he or she can bring to the global region or international audiences.

What I've seen was very good and I think it's going to be successful locally.

One thing I would like to point out is the cases of repetitions in collections -  to avoid this, the designers need to cut down the number of looks (instead of sending 30 looks to runway, they should be sending fifteen)”.

Which collections did you like most?”

“The one that we just saw - Ankasa.
I really liked that. I'm not sure whether we are going to see menswear looks as well but I felt this was one of the strongest collections for the whole season.

Another collection I did love was Manuk Aleksanyan's collection. There was a really strong creative behind it, good ideas, it wasn't just clothes. This was a designer who was building a brand and not just making clothing.
Another brand I can name is ZGEST. I feel they were very impressive. They had pieces I really liked.

And, finally, there was another brand - Anciela. The show was very interactive and I felt they had a very strong message behind the looks - it reminded me that fashion is not only about wearability: fashion is an art form and it sometimes can be about just creating something artistic.”
